Know about Tanzania Before You Go

To apply for a Tanzanian Visa, you can purchase it upon arrival or online before your trip. The visa is valid for 90 days and costs $50 for most foreigners and $100 for US citizens. US citizens receive a one-year, multiple-entry visa. Upon arrival, fill out an entry form, pay the fee, and your passport will be stamped with your visa.

There are no mandatory Vaccinations for Tanzania, except for yellow fever if arriving from a country with an outbreak. Recommended vaccines include typhoid, TDP, varicella, and Hepatitis A and B.

Tanzania is a malaria zone, so consider anti-malaria medication, especially for high-risk areas. Always check with your doctor before travelling for updated health advice.

Tanzania's official currency is the Tanzanian shilling (TZS). US dollars are widely accepted in tourist areas, but make sure your bills are from 2006 or later. ATMs are available in major cities, though withdrawal fees can be high. If you need cash, withdraw before heading to remote locations, as ATMs are scarce in Tanzania National Parks.

Tanzania has three main international airports: Julius Nyerere International Airport in Dar es Salaam, Kilimanjaro International Airport near Arusha, and Zanzibar’s Abeid Amani Karume Airport.

Choose the airport closest to your destinations; for example, JRO is best for Safaris in Tanzania's northern circuit, while ZNZ is ideal for beach vacations in Zanzibar.

Tanzania is generally safe for tourists, but basic precautions should be taken. Avoid isolated areas, especially at night, and keep valuables in your hotel. Be cautious of persistent street vendors and “flycatchers” who may approach to offer tours. It’s best to book Tanzania Safari Tours with us to avoid unwanted attention and ensure a smooth experience.

In Tanzania, public transportation includes dala-dalas (small local buses), tuk-tuks, and boda-bodas (motorcycle taxis). Dala-dalas are the cheapest but crowded, while tuk-tuks and boda-bodas offer a faster option for short distances. Long-distance buses are reliable for intercity travel. For a more comfortable journey, consider private transfers or hire a car with a driver.
