Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Arusha/Moshi

You’ll arrive in either Arusha or Moshi and be picked up by a representative from Sumbi Extra Miles Safari. You’ll have a briefing with your guide and go through a gear check to ensure you have all the necessary equipment for the trek. The rest of the day is free to relax and prepare for the trek ahead.

After breakfast, you’ll drive to Marangu Gate to begin the trek. You’ll register with the park authorities and start hiking through the lush rainforest, taking in the sights and sounds of the wildlife around you. You’ll arrive at Mandara Hut, located at 2,700 meters (8,860 feet), and spend the night there.

After breakfast, you’ll continue the trek through the heathland and moorland, which gradually become more challenging with steeper inclines and rougher terrain. You’ll arrive at Horombo Hut, located at 3,720 meters (12,200 feet), and spend the night there.

After breakfast, you’ll trek through the alpine desert, which is a barren and rocky landscape. The trek is challenging and takes approximately 6-7 hours to reach Kibo Hut, located at 4,700 meters (15,400 feet). You’ll have an early dinner and rest as much as possible before the early morning summit attempt.

You’ll wake up around midnight and begin the final ascent to the summit of Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. The trek is very challenging, with steep inclines and rocky terrain, and takes approximately 6-7 hours. You’ll reach the summit at sunrise and have time to take photos and enjoy the amazing view. You’ll then begin the descent back down to Kibo Hut, where you’ll rest and have a hot meal before continuing the descent to Horombo Hut. You’ll spend the night at Horombo Hut.
