Tour Itinerary

You’ll arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport and be picked up by a representative from Sumbi Extra Miles Safari. You’ll be transferred to your hotel in Moshi, where you’ll have a briefing with your guide and go through a gear check to ensure you have all the necessary equipment for the trek. The rest of the day is free to relax and prepare for the trek ahead.

After breakfast, you’ll be picked up from your hotel and driven to the Umbwe Gate to begin the trek. You’ll register with the park authorities and start hiking through the dense rainforest, taking in the sights and sounds of the wildlife around you. You’ll arrive at Umbwe Camp, located at 2,943 meters (9,656 feet), and spend the night there.

After breakfast, you’ll continue the trek through the rainforest, which gradually gives way to heathland and moorland. You’ll arrive at Barranco Camp, located at 3,976 meters (13,044 feet), and spend the night there.

After breakfast, you’ll continue the trek through the Barranco Valley, with amazing views of the southern glacier of Kibo. You’ll arrive at Karanga Camp, located at 3,995 meters (13,106 feet), and spend the night there.

After breakfast, you’ll trek through the alpine desert and reach Barafu Camp, located at 4,673 meters (15,331 feet). You’ll have an early dinner and rest as much as possible before the early morning summit attempt.

You’ll wake up around midnight and begin the final ascent to the summit of Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. The trek is very challenging, with steep inclines and rocky terrain, and takes approximately 6-7 hours. You’ll reach the summit at sunrise and have time to take photos and enjoy the amazing view. You’ll then begin the descent back down to Mweka Camp, located at 3,100 meters (10,170 feet), where you’ll spend the night.

After breakfast, you’ll continue the descent through the rainforest until you reach Mweka Gate. You’ll receive your summit certificates and then transfer back to Moshi.
